Test a suspect part for continuity BEFORE you buy — the single best way to avoid replacing the wrong thing on a fault code.

No part — clear an overload/jam
Remove a too-heavy load and spin the drum by hand with power off — it should turn freely. A jam or overload throws LE.

A common, cheap LE cause on direct-drive LG washers. Test/replace before assuming bearings.
Tub bearing kit
If the drum is loud/rough and has play — a big teardown. On an older machine, weigh against replacing.

- Remove an overloaded load and restart.
- With power off, spin the drum by hand — it should turn freely with no grinding.
- Listen on spin for a loud roar/grind (points to bearings).
⚠️ Doable — know the risk
- Rotor position sensor swap — moderate; unplug, remove the rear rotor to reach it.
🛑 Call a pro — don't touch this
- Tub bearings (major teardown) or the drive motor.
The Honest Call
Depends where it lands. A jam is free and the rotor sensor is $15–40 — clearly worth it. Worn tub bearings are a big-labor job; on an older LG that's the one where replacing can win. Test the cheap causes first.
